You and food?
You haven’t always gotten along.
Somewhere along the way, your relationship went from just fine to freakin’ tumultuous.
For years, you’ve felt the need to count calories, make sure you’re being “good” around food and stay on top of your workouts so you can fit into that ideal version of your body.
The result?
You walk around constantly thinking about food-- with a thick layer of stress on your shoulders, wondering how long your willpower to stick to “the plan” can actually last.
And when that will to be good, controlled, and on track slips away (which it somehow always does)?
SNAP.
It’s off to the races.
It’s you and a carton of ice cream. You and scoop after scoop of peanut butter. You and a whole loaf of bread. You and all those foods that you never “allow” yourself to have.
And as you’re binge eating, in the back of your mind you tell yourself, “I’ll start over again tomorrow. This time I’ll be better.”
After the sugar high wears off, you feel helpless. Gross. Like, will I ever be able to figure this food thing out? What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I get it together?
Your inner critic comes out in full form, leaving you feeling confused, disappointed, disgusted, and insecure.
If binging isn’t the issue,
emotionally eating usually is.
Anytime a hard emotion hits - overwhelm, uncertainty, anxiety - you find yourself turning to food to cope, leaving you feeling bad about yourself and your body...again.
And then there’s life.
Going out to restaurants with friends and attending holiday and family dinners… what should be joyful moments are actually the ones that stress you out the most.
You want to be able to have fun and be completely present with the people you love around you, but instead you’re preoccupied with trying so hard to not touch the crusty baguette and butter in the bread basket.
You wonder what it would be like if your mind weren’t always so damn preoccupied by food thoughts.
You think… “It would be awesome to have an easy, normal relationship with food.”

Listen, I have something really important to tell you. Something I’m not sure you’ve heard before.
All of this craziness? IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT.
Restricting all day and then finding yourself sneaking a pan of brownies at night is NOT due to a lack of willpower.
It happens because you’re telling yourself “NO.” “You can’t.” “That’s not allowed.”
And trying to follow some arbitrary “diet” rules when you don’t even know if they’re right for you or your body.
Chances are, they aren’t.
And at some point, your body just fights back because she’s not really being listened to. Hence, the brownies, the bread, the pizza, etc.
I get it, because I’ve been there.

Hi, I’m Jamie Mendell. Life Alchemist and Binge Eater turned Intuitive Eater.
When I let go of the random restrictions and diet rules and figured out exactly what it looked like to take care of myself and my body… I lost 40 pounds. All while sipping wine, eating dessert, and trading in my gym membership for pleasurable walks in the park.
The more I focused on taking care of myself, and listening to my own body, the looser my pants got.
But most importantly, my life got dramatically more fun.
Finally realizing that diets were not the answer and finally ditching them was the best and most important thing I ever did.
Because here’s the thing: when you find a way of eating that’s right for your body and start really taking care of yourself, you develop the most important relationship of your life… the one with you.
And when you and your body are on the same team, your body stabilizes where she’s meant to be. Life can be enjoyed on your terms. And you will finally have that confidence you’ve always strived for.
I mean, isn’t that the whole idea? To enjoy life and feel really amazing while doing it?
Let me tell you a bit more about my story.
I bet you can relate:

For 10 years, I battled with my relationship with food, stuck on what seemed like the never-ending diet / binge cycle. Every few weeks I would find a new, shiny diet plan, convince myself that this was “the one.” The one I’d be able to finally stick with that would lead me to the dream body and life I fantasized about, only to find myself deep into cartons of ice cream, bagels, and stealing half a jar of my roommates peanut butter (because I never let myself have these foods) a couple of days later.
Cue the shame, disgust, and hopelessness, not to mention how horrible my body felt from the binge eating. I desperately wondered how I’d ever break the cycle and feel anything close to “normal” around food and I deeply envied women around me who didn’t obsess over food.
When I discovered “Intuitive Eating”, a voice deep down inside of me said “this is what you need”. As foreign as the concept felt to me, I knew it was the REAL solution, the actual one I needed that would lead me to sustainable food freedom, rather than continuing to look for a diet to tell me how to eat.
Slowly, I started dabbling in the Intuitive Eating concepts, the same ones you’ll find in this course. Getting back in touch with my body’s hunger and fullness cues. Understanding my cravings. Not making ANY foods “off-limits” as that triggers a natural binge response.
As I practiced Intuitive Eating, began understanding how to handle my emotions in healthier ways, and worked on my inner critic and belief system, the pieces started to come together and finally “click”.
Over time, my relationship with food went from being THE most painful and challenging part of my life to becoming THE EASIEST part of my life.
And for that, I am endlessly grateful. And this is why I created this challenge: because I intimately know the struggle, and I also know it just doesn’t have to be that way.

Back in the day, I used to run the IE Challenge a bit differently and offered one or two Q&A calls per month to whoever was going through the Challenge at the time. I recorded them all, so you get access to them now. I no longer run live Q&A calls, but the recordings are super helpful. Women just like you asked tons of questions (the same ones you probably would be asking) and I gave them clear answers. Before Jamie's Intuitive Eating Challenge, my life revolved around numbers. How many calories in 2 ounces of banana? How many calories did I burn on the elliptical? How many minutes until I can eat again? How much is 1/4 a cup of trail mix? How many pounds do I weigh? Exhausting, all-consuming, anxiety-ridden numbers. Where do I even begin to talk about the Intuitive Eating challenge? Simply with words that say Thank You. Thank you for reminding me that at the end of the day, I am a beautiful person and should love myself exactly where I am at.
The most noticeable difference I have experienced since the challenge is how I order food. Just last evening as I ordered a chicken burrito at a restaurant. While ordering a friend said out loud to the table “Gosh don’t you just love the new Kristina? Remember how lame she used to be?”. This comment brought a smile to my face. It feels good to see people notice how much more relaxed I am about meals and the food that’s being served.
What I did not anticipate to gain from the challenge is the mental and emotional cleanse. I am no longer on an emotional roller coaster of what to eat and what not to eat. I am simply living life with joy.
