Interview with MYL Alumni, Stephanie

I am so excited to share an interview with you today that I did with one of our amazing MYL Alumni, Stephanie Fellenberg. If you haven’t heard about my signature virtual Master Your Life course yet, you can click here for all the details…or just keep reading to learn about the experience through Stephanie’s eyes.

Stephanie lives in Germany and works as a marketing manager for a hospitality company. In addition to her beautiful story of transformation through self-care, Stephanie represents one of my favorite things about our MYL community; the fact that the women really participate from everywhere. I don’t just mean that we span the US…or North America…the Master Your Life community is truly worldwide!

It is so unique and special to be able to bring together so many different women, with such varied perspectives and experiences, in one incredibly supportive space. I know that it’s hard to imagine exactly what it feels like to be a part of something so special until you get to experience it for yourself. My hope is that through seeing the MYL experience through the eyes of some of our alumni, you can start to really feel into what it might be like for you to have this experience yourself.

If you have any questions about my signature 8-week Master Your Life course, or just want to chat about if it’s the right next step for you, I’m always here to support and guide you. In addition, sometimes women considering joining MYL find it even more helpful to chat directly with one of our alumni.

We have an incredibly warm and welcoming alumni base, and they really are located throughout the country and the world. These amazing women can’t wait to tell all about their own MYL experiences, and they are an amazing resource for any of your more personal “I’m the most nervous about ______” questions or concerns.

If you’d like to connect with one of our amazing MYL alumni, just email me here and I’ll be happy to set you up ASAP! And on that note – that’s enough from me today. Now I hope you enjoy my interview with Stephanie…!

Xo, Jamie!

Jamie: When did you first participate in Master Your Life?

Stephanie: I did Master Your Life for the first time last fall and it was the first time ever that I did a self-care program.

J: What was going on in your life when you found Master Your Life? What were you going through? What made you want to join the program?

S: I was in college and I was just miserable…I felt entirely out of place and like I was so different from everyone around me. I was never very social growing up; I only had a few friends and I had very little self-confidence. I always thought there was something wrong with me because I felt so different from everyone else. There was always this voice in my head telling me that I had to go out and make friends, so I forced myself to do so, but the more I tried to fit in, the worse I felt. Food, especially sugar, became my outlet. If I couldn’t get myself to go to a party, I felt guilty and turned to sweets. If I did go out, I usually didn’t have fun and ended up turning to sugar to feel better. it was a vicious and never-ending cycle. Eventually, I knew something had to change; I was tired of feeling out of place, alone, and like I was just waiting for something to bring me out of my misery. That is when I found Jamie’s website and reached out for help.

J: What was MYL like for you? What did you get out of the program?

S: Participating in MYL was an extraordinary experience. It was amazing to share this journey with other women who had similar stories and who were there to support each other all the time. I have learned so many valuable lessons about myself and I now know countless ways to live my life to the fullest. To this day I cannot really believe how much self-confidence I gained from MYL. In hindsight, MYL was the greatest gift I have ever given myself.

J: What is your life like now? How did the program help you?

S: My constantly feeling out of place and feeling like I wasn’t good enough had made my life miserable for over ten years. Plus, eating my feelings made me think I had a problem with my relationship with food. MYL helped me to realize why I had these feelings in the first place, and showed me that my misery was rooted in how I was dealing with my emotions, not in my relationship with food. After all of these epiphanies and through learning how to treat myself, my life changed for the better. Now, almost a year later, I walk through life with so much more happiness. The same voice in my head that used to make me miserable is now talking to me with much more compassion and tells me that I am perfect the way I am.

J: What was your favorite part of MYL?

S: My favorite part of Master Your Life is that it is a group program! MYL brings women from all over the world together. Women share their stories in a safe environment and get a ton of support from each other. I felt so supported in this community!

J: Did you get anything out of the program that you totally weren’t expecting or that you didn’t even have on your radar as something you wanted to work on?

S: During MYL I learned that a lot of behaviors we have as adults are somehow connected to our childhood. I realized that I share a lot of struggles with my mom and I have started to look at my relationship with my mom in an entirely new way. In some ways, it has made me feel closer to her; it has also made me realize that there is some baggage between us that we want to get out of the way.

J: Who do you think Master Your Life is for? Who would you recommend the program to?

S: I think any woman would benefit from Master Your Life. In my opinion, the program can help any woman who is not feeling comfortable in her own skin…maybe she has a negative opinion of herself, or she isn’t happy with her weight, or she is just not living a fulfilling life. MYL covers every part of life in one way or another. Whatever it is that you might struggle with, Jamie gets to the root of the struggle and helps you find a way to overcome the struggle through gentle self-care.

J: What advice do you have for someone just starting out on a journey towards self-care?

S: For me, the hardest part was to admit that I needed help. I was embarrassed that I couldn’t run my life on my own. So, if you are reading this, it means that you have already taken a bold step. You want to change something. You want to improve. You want to take care of yourself. And that is SO great! There is no such thing as too much self-care! So, my advice to you would just be: keep going. Self-care is indeed a journey and MYL will take you to some great places!

J: What do you wish you knew when you started your own self-care journey?

S: I was afraid that self-care would just be another item on my daily to-do list. Something I “had to do”. I expected it to be some sort of unpleasant temp job I had to do because I was different. Of course, self-care is nothing like that; it is gently getting to know yourself in a beautiful and compassionate way, and learning how to really take care of yourself. If I’d known this sooner, I am sure I would have started my journey much earlier.

J: Why Master Your Life? What sets this program apart from other virtual wellness / self-care programs that are out there?

S: Jamie’s program is truly unique, not only because of how it is designed, but because of her. A lot of what she teaches she knows from her own experience. For me, this is the best credential there is. You wouldn’t trust your tennis coach if he had never played a match in his life, right?

MYL covers every aspect of your life; no matter what you are struggling with, it will come up. It is very comprehensive and there is not an emotion untouched or a story untold. Also, there is tons of support from the community. Interacting with the other women who are doing the program with you is very special and provides so much comfort.

J: Is there anything else you want to share? Is there else you think women should know that are considering joining Master Your Life this year?

S: It took me a long time before I decided to do MYL. One of my biggest concerns was the financial aspect. I hadn’t done anything like this before so I had no idea what to expect. I was wondering if it was worth my money, but once the program started I never looked back. Everything I have learned from MYL and how my life has changed over the last year is priceless. The power of self-care is truly amazing; it has lit up my life in a unique way.
